Neranjan
de Silva
Sound
Engineer / Keyboardist

The attractive CD, Familians in
Harmony – from Sri Lanka to
Llangollen, recorded and
produced by Neranjan "sealed the
fate" of the choir. It won the choir
a coveted place at the 58th
Llangollen International Musical
Eisteddfod 2004 in Wales, where they
were subsequently adjudged second
only to Wales!
Neranjan has been involved with the
choir since year 2001 and has
enjoyed seeing it move the goal
posts forward in the standards it
achieves.
A combination of music and
engineering is what makes Neranjan
tick. This Chartered Electronics
Engineer, Fellow of the Trinity
College of Music (UK) and Licentiate
of the Royal Schools of Music (UK)
has many firsts to his credit.
Starting his career as a guest
producer in the music division, and
an announcer of the Sri Lanka
Broadcasting Corporation’s English
Service, while pursuing his studies
in electronics engineering, he was
on the team that inaugurated Studio
STX, the first FM stereo radio
station in the country. Later he was
instrumental in launching TNL Radio,
the premier private FM radio station
he designed and set up. Next he took
the reins of a larger private radio
station operating three channels –
Capital Radio, FM99 and Savana.
Finally, moving into the hospitality, leisure
and travel industry, he is now the General Manager of Quickshaws
Limited. He also does consulting work on various radio and
television infrastructure projects.
As a musician, he is one of Sri Lanka's most sought-after accompanists. He also owns a high
tech digital multi-track recording
studio and cutting edge sound
reinforcement equipment used
exclusively for his performances.
Neranjan’s recording of Soul Sounds’
rendition of Grief Never Grows
Old won immediate
acceptance from the producers of the
One World Project for
inclusion in the very successful
single released in the UK and USA to
raise funds for Tsunami affected
countries. Other artistes on the
single included international stars
of the calibre of Sir Cliff Richards
OBE, Barry and Robin Gibb (The
Bee Gees), Brian Wilson, Boy
George, Russell Watson, Steve
Winwood, Jon Anderson, Dewey Burnell
and Gerry Beckley.
On Tuesday 13 October 2009, Neranjan celebrated 25 years as an
accompanist, with a "Celebration in Song" at St. Mary's Church,
Bambalapitiya. This celebration of his favourite hymns, featured the
combined forces of all the finest choirs in Sri Lanka (including Soul
Sounds), united for the first time. |
